Three gifts decorated with crochet flowers.

Here are the materials you need and the vital statistics:

  • Yarn: Patons “Bumblebee” baby-weight yarn (100% cotton), (1.75 oz [50 gm], 123 yds each skein): 1 skein of #02413 Flowers Variegated

  • Hook: Size F-5 U.S. or size needed to obtain gauge

  • Yarn needle

  • Measurements: Approximately 3 inches in diameter

  • Gauge: First 3 rnds = 1 3/4 in. in diameter

  • Stitches used: Chain stitch (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), triple crochet (tr)

Create your crocheted flower:

  1. Follow this stitch pattern:

Center ring: Leaving a 6-in. length, ch 6 and close into a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 15 sc in ring, sl st in first sc to join.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in sc, ch 3, skip next 2 sc , rep from to around, sl st in first sc to join (5 ch-3 loops made).

Rnd 3: Sl st in first ch-3 loop, ch 1, (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-3 loop around (5 petals made), sl st in first sc to join.

Rnd 4: Ch 4, skip next 6 sts, sl st in next sc , rep from to around (5 ch-4 loops made).

Rnd 5: Sl st in first ch-4 loop, ch 1, (sc, hdc, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-4 loop around (5 petals made), sl st in first sc to join.

Rnd 6: Ch 5, skip next 8 sts, sl st in next sc , rep from to around (5 ch-5 loops made).

Rnd 7: Sl st in first ch-5 loop, ch 1, (sc, hdc, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch-5 loop around (5 petals made), sl st in first sc to join. Fasten off.

  2. If you want to tie the flower to a package, make a tie in your desired color.

Make a chain 2 inches longer than the combined circumference of the package in both directions. Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch sewing length. Wrap the tie around the package in both directions with the ends meeting at the center top. Tie the ends in a knot at the center top.

  3. Make as many curlicues as desired in colors to match or contrast with flowers by following this stitch pattern:

Row 1: 3 sc in second ch from hook, 3 sc in each ch across.

Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch sewing length.

With yarn needle and sewing lengths, sew one end to wrong side of Rnd 1 of the flower, as desired.

  4. Arrange flowers on top of the package, as desired.

  5. With a yarn needle and the extra sewing lengths, sew the flowers to the ties.
