It can help you move any scale, arpeggio, or chord to a different starting note. For example, if you want to move an A major scale that starts on the 6th string, 5th fret, to play an E% major scale, simply move your hand up the neck (toward the bridge) and place your starting finger on the 6th string, 11th fret.
