Guess wisely, and you can score extra points on many ASVAB subtests. If you leave a question blank, you have a 0 percent chance of getting it right, but if you guess, you have at least a 25 percent chance. Here are a few quick pointers on guessing:\r\n\r\n\t\r\nEliminate answers that you know are wrong and then guess among the remaining answers. If you eliminate one answer, your chances of getting the question right go up to 33 percent. Eliminate two, and you’re up to 50/50. Here are some tips on narrowing down your choices:\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\r\nAnswers that include always or never types of statements are usually wrong.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nIf two answer options have opposite meanings, one of them is probably correct.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nIf two answer options are very close in meaning, neither of them is probably correct.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\r\nDon’t guess based on the frequency of previous answers. Just because the answer to the last ten questions has been (C) doesn’t mean the next answer can’t be (C), too.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nIf you can’t eliminate any choices, always choose the same letter for your guess. For example, if you have to guess on ten questions, always guess (C). Choosing the same letter every time increases your odds of selecting the right answer for at least one or two of those questions.\r\n\r\n","item_vector":null},"titleHighlight":null,"descriptionHighlights":null,"headers":null},{"objectType":"article","id":191453,"data":{"title":"General ASVAB Test-Taking Tips","slug":"general-asvab-test-taking-tips","update_time":"2017-03-08T19:56:15+00:00","object_type":"article","image":null,"breadcrumbs":[{"name":"Academics & The Arts","slug":"academics-the-arts","categoryId":33662},{"name":"Study Skills & Test Prep","slug":"study-skills-test-prep","categoryId":33772},{"name":"Armed Services","slug":"armed-services","categoryId":33776}],"description":"When taking the ASVAB, being prepared and knowing how to approach the questions can go a long way. Note: Skipping questions isn’t an option if you take the computer-based test, which forces you to answer each question before you can move on to the next one.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nDon’t leave any questions blank. The ASVAB doesn’t penalize you for guessing. On the computer-based ASVAB, you can’t leave any questions blank.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nIf you’re taking the paper-and-pencil test, make sure that you mark each answer on the correct space on your answer sheet.\r\n\r\n\t\r\nNever change the answer to a question after you move on to another question unless you’re positive the answer’s wrong. The following sample questions is a good indication of the types of questions and format you will encounter on test day.\nSample questions\nWord Knowledge\nTime: 11 minutes for 35 questions\nDirections: The Word Knowledge subtest is the third subtest of the ASVAB. The questions are designed to measure your vocabulary knowledge. You’ll see three types of questions on this subtest. The first type simply asks you to choose a word or words that most nearly mean the same as the underlined word in the question.\nThe second type includes an underlined word used in a sentence, and you are to choose the word or words that most nearly mean the same as the underlined word, as used in the context of the sentence.\nThe third type of question asks you to choose the word that has the opposite or nearly opposite meaning as the underlined word. Each question is followed by four possible answers.
