Although it might not seem like a big deal, the red autofocus lights in the Canon EOS 60D’s viewfinder can sometimes be distracting, especially if four or five light up as you initiate autofocus (even though this happens only when the AF mode is One Shot or the initial autofocus when in AI Focus mode).
To put the kibosh on the red autofocus lights, follow these steps:
Set the Mode dial to a mode in the Creative Zone.
Display the Custom Function group, highlight C.Fn. III: Autofocus/Drive, and then press Set.
Scroll to Custom Function III-3, Superimposed Display.
Press Set to activate the list of settings.
Scroll down (or use the Main dial) to highlight the option you want to set:
0: On
1: Off
If you choose Off, you still see the red AF points light up when selecting them manually (otherwise you wouldn’t know what AF point you were selecting), but they won't show up if you have the camera choosing them automatically. In other words, when you need to see them, they’re on. When you don’t, the camera is taking care of them and you don’t see them.
Press the Set button to lock in changes.
You’ve probably gotten the hang of selecting Custom Functions and changing the options around by now. If not, keep practicing and it will come.
