It’s possible to connect your Canon EOS 60D to a television set for big-screen movie playback, but you don’t have to. To view movies on the camera monitor, follow these steps:

Press the Playback button and then locate the movie file.
When reviewing pictures in full-frame view, you can spot a movie file by looking for the little movie camera icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.
In Index playback, you see little “film sprocket” holes along the left edges of movie files. You can’t play movies in Index mode, so use the Quick Control dial or multicontroller to highlight the file you want to view and then press the AF Point Selection button to open full-frame view.

Press the Set button.
You see a strip of playback controls at the bottom of the screen.

Use the Quick Control dial or multicontroller to highlight the Play button and then press Set.
The control strip disappears, and your movie begins playing.

To adjust the volume, rotate the Main dial.
Note the little white wheel in the volume display area of the screen. That icon reminds you to use the Main dial to adjust a setting. Rotating the dial controls only the camera speaker’s volume; if you connect the camera to a TV, control the volume on the TV instead.
During playback, you can pause the movie and redisplay the control strip at any time by pressing Set. Here’s a look at what the various controls do:

Play in slow motion: Highlight the Slow Motion button and press Set. Press the multicontroller to the right to increase the slow-motion speed; press left to reduce it. (A little scale appears in the top-right corner of the screen to indicate where the current setting falls within the range of available slow motion speeds.) To exit slow-motion playback, press Set. The control strip reappears; highlight the Play button and press Set to view the movie at normal speed.

Display the first or last frame of the movie: Highlight the respective frame button and press Set.

Display the previous frame: Highlight the Previous Frame button and press Set. Each press of the button takes you back a single frame.

Display the next frame: Highlight the Next Frame button and press Set. Press repeatedly to continue advancing frame by frame.

Fast forward or rewind: Highlight the Next Frame button and hold down the Set button to fast-forward (although “fast” is a relative term here). Highlight the Previous Frame button and hold down Set to rewind.

Edit: Click this icon to open the Editing screen, where you can remove unwanted sections from the beginning or end of your movie.

Exit movie playback: Highlight the Exit symbol and press Set.
