The biggest upgrade to the Nintendo DSi is the ability to download games directly from the Internet. Connecting to the Internet using the Nintendo DSi allows you to use the Nintendo DSi Shop and to download DSiWare directly to your DSi — no game cartridges necessary. Before you can download games from the Nintendo DSi Shop you must purchase DSi Points. Downloading the games using the Nintendo DSi to the Internet is easy as long as you’re in a wireless hotspot.

  1. Start up your Nintendo DSi and select the Nintendo DSi Shop from the main menu.

The Nintendo DSi will connect to the Internet using your stored Internet settings.

  2. Select Start Shopping to open the Nintendo DSi Shop.

  3. Select Add Nintendo DSi Points. Then select Buy Nintendo DSi Points with a Credit Card.

  4. Select how many points you want to buy and the type of credit card you want to use.

A typical payment information screen will appear.

  5. Fill-in the onscreen form, including the 3-digit security code, and tap OK.

  6. Complete the Billing Address information and tap OK.

Don't use any type of punctuation in the address.

  7. Select Yes to confirm the purchase.

The DSi points will be added to your account.

  8. Select DSiWare from the Nintendo DSi Shop main menu.

You can choose to search for specific software or browse through software based on the number of points required to purchase them.

If you choose an item that requires more DSi Points than you have on your account, you'll see an option to Add Nintendo DSi Points. Click this option and complete the necessary information to complete the purchase.

  9. Choose Free and select a free game or application. Select Download. Tap Yes to confirm the purchase.

The download will begin immediately, although it might take a few minutes to complete.
