Kids’ shoes are all about comfort. Fashion-illustration kids often sport sneakers, but you have other footwear choices as well. Boots, flip-flops, and sandals all work for kids as well as adults.

Sneakers — always in style

How many types of sneakers can you draw on your fashion figure of a child? Too many! Athletic sneaks are padded, with arched and chunky-looking soles that curve up at the toes. Some have stripes and flashing lights in the heels, and others have elevated heels and soles for bounce. Sneakers are to kids as cars are to adults: status.

Here’s how to draw a stylized sneaker:

  1. Map out the shape of a child’s foot.

  2. Draw a full sole following the bottom of the foot.

Make sure to curve the sole up under the toes.

  3. Use a curve below the ankle to enclose the shoe.

The front and back of the foot transform into the front and back of the sneaker because these shoes are pretty form-fitting. The curve you draw in this step connects the front and back of the shoe.

  4. Add a curve at the heel and draw a pair of curved lines around the ankle and down the front of the shoe. A simple zigzag line indicates shoelaces. Right above the laces, draw a curved line to show the tongue. Add a little loop in the back for a nice detail.

Kids’ sneakers have all sorts of cool features these days. Add lines, lights, symbols, or other elements that appeal to youngsters’ sense of style and make them stand out from their peers.

Adults wear sneakers, too. If you’re drawing workout gear for grown-ups, the only modification you have to make when drawing the shoes is to keep them in scale with the rest of your fashion figure.

How to draw clogs for kids

Fashion drawings of kids in clogs are really adorable. When a little girl is twirling about in a colorful summer dress with a matching pair of clogs or a little guy is marching around in shorts and clogs, a fashion drawing looks very in-the-moment.

Clogs, which are usually made out of a foam resin, are the shoe of the moment for kids’ fashion illustrations. Who cares if these shoes were originally meant for boating? This lightweight footwear is all the rage for the kid set.

Here’s how to draw clogs for a child:

  1. Draw a child’s foot.

  2. Draw two parallel curves around the heel for the back strap and a curve from the bottom of the heel to the top of the foot for the front of the shoe. The outline of the foot transforms into the outline of the top and toe of the shoe.

  3. Draw an arched and chunky sole beneath the bottom outline of the foot.
