Serving coffee at holiday functions is a great way to warm your guests on a cold wintery evening. This coffee, flavored with orange, cinnamon, and brandy livens up any party, but might go especially well at a Christmas cookie party. Brûlot means “burnt brandy.” This recipe makes enough for a party.
Café Brûlot
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Yield: 10 to 12 servings
3 tablespoons sugar
Zest of 1 orange, cut into thin strips
One 3-inch cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean
1-1/2 cups brandy
6 cups brewed, hot, strong black coffee
Place the sugar, zest, cinnamon stick, and vanilla bean in a large heatproof bowl.
In a small pot, heat the brandy over low heat until warm. Pour over the ingredients and ignite carefully by holding a lit match close to the alcohol until it ignites.
Douse the flames by pouring the coffee over the brandy mixture. Stir, remove the zest and vanilla bean, and serve immediately.
