The Wi-Fi Direct feature is used to connect your tablet with another Wi-Fi Direct device. It’s not necessarily about connecting to the Internet, but rather more about sharing with other mobile devices.
Heed these directions to use Wi-Fi Direct to connect your Samsung Galactic tablet to another Wi-Fi Direct device:

Open the Settings app.

On the left side of the screen, select Wi-Fi.
If necessary, touch the Connections tab to view the Wi-Fi item.

Touch Wi-Fi Direct.
Your tablet begins to scan for another Wi-Fi Direct device.

On the other device, choose the Wi-Fi Direct command, and then select the Galaxy Tablet from the list of available devices.
For example, on an Android mobile device, choose the Wi-Fi Direct command and look for the Galaxy tablet’s name and ID on the list of available networks.
If scanning stops while you’re readying the other device, touch the Scan button atop the screen to start scanning again.

On your Galaxy tablet, touch the Accept button.
The connection is made.
On both devices, in their respective Wi-Fi Direct screens, you see the other device listed and flagged as connected.
The key to working with Wi-Fi Direct on your tablet is to use the Share icon. For example, to share a photo, view the photo in the Gallery app and then touch the Share icon. Choose Wi-Fi Direct as the sharing method.
Choose the other device from the list of Wi-Fi Direct connected gizmos, and then touch the Done button. On the other device, accept the transfer request, however that works. A notification should appear on the screen.

A better way to share files from your tablet with a computer is by using the USB connection.

Your tablet’s name was set when you first configured it. You can reset it by choosing the About Device item in the Settings app. (Select the General tab, if necessary.) Select the Device Name item from the right side of the screen, and then type a new name.
