How to Eject a Memory Card from Your PC

You can’t just yank out a memory card that you’ve put in your PC. It may be tempting. But if you do pull out the memory card without properly ejecting it, the memory card can be damaged or the information stored on the card destroyed. Be proper! To eject your memory card:

Open the Computer window on your PC.

Open the Computer window on your PC.

You can double-click the Computer icon on the desktop, or open the Start menu and choose Computer.

Click to select the memory card's icon.

Click to select the memory card's icon.

You can find this icon in the part of the window labeled Devices with Removable Storage.

Click the Eject button on the toolbar.

Click the Eject button on the toolbar.

You may notice the memory card’s icon change or turn gray, which is a sign that it’s okay to remove the card.

Pull the memory card from the card slot.

Be sure to store the memory card in a safe, static-free location when you’re not using it.
