If you’ve given an iPad to your kid or someone who works for you, you may not want that person spending time watching YouTube videos. You want him to do something more productive, such as homework or the quarterly budget.
That’s where parental (or “boss”) restrictions come in. (Please note that the use of this iron-fist tool can make you really unpopular.)
To restrict access to YouTube, follow these steps:
-
Tap Settings→General→Restrictions→Enable Restrictions.
-
When prompted, establish or enter a previously established passcode — twice.
-
Tap YouTube so that the button reads Off.
If you made YouTube a no-no, when you return to the Home screen, the YouTube icon is missing in action. The same goes for any other restricted activities. To restore YouTube or other privileges, go back into Restrictions and tap Disable Restrictions or tap the Off switch so that it says On again. Of course, you have to reenter your passcode before you can do so.
Restrictions can also be applied to iTunes, Safari, the App Store, new app installation, location settings, allowed content settings for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more..
